Well I have this friend and she is so pessimistic (recently). She’s fourteen and believes her life has sucked and still does slightly and thinks she has been the worst person when she was about 12/13. I want to give her confidence about herself because she feels absolutely awful about herself and I need other opinions’

Well she was always a shy girl and sometimes slightly selfish and stubborn but those flaws weren’t that noticeable. She became frustrtaed very easily leading her to do quite irrational things. She was incredibly bright although as she was so imaginative she didn’t really read fiction because she would have rather created things than read them but some fiction she enjoyed. She thinks she has ADHD aswell. She has had a couple of close friends and was never really popular because of her shyness. She was usually confident and sometimes irritating around us and a little slow sometimes but overall I think she’s bright, even when she didn’t study last year, a matter which really bugs her. She claims she didn’t study when she was 12/13 because she was slightly out of it and lost and didn’t think it was important, and also she didn’t really put full effort into work but now she works so hard in gcse year and is achieving high grades. When she was 13 last year too she became very annoyed about her ex boyfriend because he didn’t want to be her friend (only friend) and because he was irritating her she made a hate group about him out of her frustration (she is very easily angered) and also she and her other friend made a fake account to comment rude things about her ex’s new girlfriends picture. I tell her she was 13 and it didn’t matter because she was young and young people make mistakes but she feels awful about it and I don’t really blame her. She is much more mature now she is 15 and studies loads, reads books, does more music and sport and feels successful this year, but she still dwells on last year and how she “rottenly” behaved as she puts it and she feels she has wasted the year on her computer chatting online etc rather than studying or reading, even when it was a year which did not matter too much. I think she has been a pretty girl, but she disagrees and claims she’s short. People perceive her as sweet and shy at school and I think she is a capable friendly girl apart from her few mistakes, but she feels so bad about her life and herself. Any ideas of how to boost her confidence about how she was’
