Research has proven that the best way to learn is to ask, answer, and discuss. … I wouldn’t want to take an accounting class without using the website.” – Nichole C.
My new school awarded me my Pell Grant
I was recently denied Aid from my old community college due to my grades…. but of course I’m attending another community college and I have financial aid.
Here’s my letter
This letter is to inform you that your eligibility to receive financial aid has been revoked because of your failure to make satisfactory academic progress (SAP) as defined by the US Department of Education. According to the regulations, students who receive financial aid are required to advance toward their degree by:
Maintaining at least a 2.0 grade point average (GPA)
A student must maintain at least a ‘C’ average.
Successfully completing at least 67% of all attempted credits. (PASS)
A student must receive a passing grade in at least 2 out of every 3 classes in which he or she is enrolled.
Completing their program of study within 150% of the credits required to graduate. (MAX)
If a major requires 60 credit hours for graduation, a student must complete the program in no more than 90 credit hours.
At the present time, you are not meeting one or more of the stated requirements and therefore are not making satisfactory progress toward your degree.
Failed Requirement(s): DENIAL Denied Aid
As a result, in accordance with regulations, you are no longer eligible to receive financial aid at Macomb Community College effective Fall 2011.
If you have experienced a significant circumstance which you feel has had an impact on your ability to make SAP, you have the opportunity to file an appeal with the District Financial Aid Office. An appeal form is available on the college website, www.macomb.edu and must be completed and submitted along with all required documentation. Your appeal will be reviewed by a District Financial Aid Representative. Our decision will be available on WebGate and you will also receive email notification. Please be aware that submitting an appeal does not guarantee reinstatement of your eligibility to receive financial aid.
If your failed requirement is ‘Denial’ or ‘Terminated (TERM)’, then this is not the first time you have failed to meet SAP and we are obligated to tell you that your eligibility to receive financial aid may not be reinstated again.
Continue to check your status on WebGate and remember to allow approximately 6 weeks for our decision. In the event that your appeal is granted, you will regain financial aid eligibility beginning with the semester in which you filed the appeal; eligibility is not retroactive to all earlier semesters.
If you have been a recipient of Federal Student Loans at any time in the past and you will not be enrolling in classes, you are required, in accordance with Department of Education regulations, to complete exit counseling. You may submit exit counseling online by going to www.studentloans.gov.
If you are a recipient of student loans, it is also important to remember that your loans must be repaid. Your loans will enter repayment status six months after your course load drops below 6 credits. It is crucial that you do not default on your student loans. Failing to repay your loans will jeopardize future loan opportunities, damage your credit history and result in many other detrimental consequences. There are several repayment options available. You may review those options and find additional information regarding your personal financial aid account and loan history at www.studentloans.gov.
Sincerely,
District Financial Aid Office
But like I said I’m not denied at my new college so you think its just at that community college’ I talked to people that were from Macomb that’s attending my new community college and they said they went through the same thing.
